After four weeks of being absent, I was fortunate enough to attend The Feast Pasig Youth Session. This afternoon the topic was about relationships… it may be with your God, your family, your friends, your lover or simply with yourself. Because life is all about relationships.

Everybody might agree that the secret to a lasting relationship is not just love but COMMITMENT. Maybe, that’s also the reason why Bro. Obet Cabrillas highlights the talk with what he calls, The 5 C’s of a Committed Relationship. And I want to share this with you.

1. Communication

You need to find that someone who speaks your own language, someone whom you can speak or talk about meaningful (as well as meaningless) conversations. Bro. O calls this a SAFE friend—someone whom you can be emotionally naked with. Someone whom you can be just yourself without the fear of them judging you. And if you find that person, keep them and learn how to treasure them.

Have a Safe friend and BE A SAFE FRIEND too.

2. Connection

“The greatest dilemma of today’s generation is disconnection”.

Every person experiences touch hunger or the need for being physically connected with another. That is why every person needs at least five (5) to seven (7) hugs each day. And take note, these hugs must be AFFECTIONATE and not MALICIOUS. :D

3. Cooperation

There maybe times that you want to do things alone, but never isolate yourself for too long because this can also be unhealthy. It takes two to tango. When we have friends, we multiply productivity, add the fun, subtract the stress, and divide the effort.

4. Conversion

When you are in a relationship, you must be ready to change for that person. Love is letting go of our skepticism and learning to trust that person. Love is letting that person grow by supporting them in their dreams and endeavours. Love is letting glow to shine through that person and not being jealous nor insecure if that person is getting more and more beautiful each day.

5. Communion

This is when you are so much in love with the person that you can feel what is happening in their life even without them telling you. It is as if you are one with that person. You understand his or her personality and oftentimes adopt some of them.

These 5 C’s not only apply to lovers, but to any kind of relationship. Love is not enough to make a relationship last. For when love fades, it is their commitment that binds two together. <3
